Meet Our Team: Anusara Yoga Teacher Patrick
We’re so excited to welcome Patrick to our AGY community! Patrick is an Anusara yoga teacher and avid DJ. He carries his creative energy wherever he goes, with a sincere love to deconstruct the world and put it back together in new and interesting ways. This carries into his love for practicing and studying Anusara yoga.
For those of you new to Anusara yoga – it is an alignment based practice, focused on finding the right feeling within each of us. We explore the mind and body through a series of postures and poses chosen to illustrate a specific concept and to gain a deeper understanding of self and connectedness to others as well as the wider universe.
You can check out Patricks classes every Tuesdays and Thursday from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Continue reading to find out what else motivates and inspires him…
AGY: What is your Astrology Sun Sign and how do you relate to it?
Patrick: As a Sagittarius, I am very curious and independent, I always love to learn new things and explore the world on my own terms. This has given me a deep passion for philosophy as well as a fierce desire to experience things for myself.
AGY: Favorite inspirational quote?
Patrick: “By the time the stream came to the edge of the forest it had grown up, so it was almost a river, and being grown up it didn’t run and jump and sparkle along as it used to but moved more slowly. For it knew now where it was going and it said to itself “There is no hurry. We shall get there some day.”
AGY: How did you get into Yoga?
Patrick: I first started doing yoga in college as a way to learn more about myself and to heal a couple of injuries I had sustained. After bouncing around through several styles I landed on the alignment based practice of Anusara and it was a natural fit, giving me the tools to break down what I was experiencing in my body in order to build back up and find a greater sense of well being.
AGY: Why are you passionate about teaching yoga?
Patrick: I love what yoga provides, both as a means of exploring ourselves and the world around us. This same love carries into my teaching. When we practice we engage our whole mind, body and spirit together in order to find a deep sense of harmony, and this is what I strive to share with my students.
AGY: What is your spirit animal and why?
Patrick: I have several, but my primary spirit animal is a coyote, because of its independent and mischievous nature.
AGY: Describe yourself in three words?
Patrick: Passionate, Balanced and Spontaneous
AGY: If you were stranded on a desert island, what are the three items would you bring?
Patrick: A yoga mat, a solar powered stereo and a surfboard.
AGY: If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?
Patrick: I would pick shapeshifter powers like Beast Boy, to allow me to turn into any animal big or small.
AGY: If you live in LA, when and why did you move here?
Patrick: I moved to LA in 2017 after college to pursue a career as a DJ and quickly fell in love with the city and all it has to offer.
AGY: What is your favorite hobby, aside from yoga?
Patrick: I am a huge baker and I am always experimenting and trying new recipes. Over the pandemic I have gotten really good at making sourdough bread and croissants.
AGY: What is your favorite food?
Patrick: I adore all things Mexican food and could eat it pretty much any day.
