Meet Our Team: Dharma Yoga Teacher Sara
Meet Sara! She is our new Dharma yoga teachers. Sara first felt the power of yogic inner peace while chanting mantra on the bank of the Ganges in 2009. She went on to receive her 200 hour Power Yoga certification from Yoga to the People in 2010 and since has studied Bikram yoga, Dharma Yoga, Rocket Yoga, YogaWorks, Yin Yoga and Sound Healing. Sara hopes that her students leave the practice sensitized and in tune with their inner world, feeling present and energized to fully inhabit this precious life!
Dharma Yoga is a Hatha Raja practice incorporating the 8 limbs of yoga as taught by Sri Dharma Mittra in New York City. It is an all levels practice that moves through an opening chant, Sun Salutation C, holding postures, Savasana Soundbath and finishes with a meditation.

AGY: What is your Astrology Sign and how do you relate to it?
Sara: I was born on the cusp of Aries and Taurus. For a long time I thought I was an Aries but I didn’t feel like one. When I got my chart drawn up turned out the sun had already passed into Taurus. It made sense to me because I love singing, the domestic arts (gardening, home design etc), I am very loyal, and sometimes I’m so stubborn I can’t even change my own mind.
AGY: What is your favorite mantra?
Sara: Om Asato Ma Sat Gamaya, Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya, Mrityor Ma Amritam Gamaya, Om Shanti Shanti Shanti : Lead me from ignorance to truth, from darkness to light, from death to immortality, peace peace peace
AGY: What is your favorite asana and why?
Sara: I love inversions because they feel quiet and peaceful. It’s hard to pick one but right now I’d say forearm balance, Pincha Mayurasana.
AGY: Why are you passionate about teaching yoga?
Sara: To watch people discover their bodies, and the healing power of their breath is an honor. When someone leaves the class with love in their eyes and you know they’re going to share it with the world it’s such a blessing!
AGY: What is your spirit animal and why?
Sara: The bee. When I was a child I rescued a bee from my grandparents pool and it stung me. It was my first lesson in seeking to understand the true nature of something and act accordingly. I’ve had other lessons from bees and they always seem to show up when I need some emotional support.
AGY: Who has been your biggest mentor on your spiritual path?
Sara: Amma, the hugging saint. The unfathomable level of her compassion and understanding is a constant inspiration to me.
AGY: If you were stranded on a desert island, what are the three items would you bring?
Sara: water, a banjo, and sunglasses.
AGY: What brings you most joy and why?
Sara: Dancing brings me a lot of joy. When I dance I let my body move by itself to the music. It feels amazing.
AGY: What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
Sara: A lot of people are surprised that at age 24 I traveled throughout India for four months by myself. I made friends along the way though so I wasn’t alone that much!
AGY: If you live in LA, when and why did you move here?
Sara: I was born and raised in LA but moved out once I turned 18. I came back about 6 years ago because my partner at the time wanted to. At first I was resistant to living here because of the traffic and missing my friends. I quickly realized the benefits of being in such close proximity to beach and mountains, ended up making friends, and am now happy living here.
