Meet Our Team: Kundalini Yoga Teacher Sat Siri
We are honored to welcome Sat Siri to our community. Sat Siri is a trailblazing, next generation, Kundalini Yoga teacher and teacher trainer. She travels the world teaching Kundalini Yoga in places like Bali, Maui, Mexico and India. She has been practicing Yoga and Meditation for 25 years and teaching Kundalini Yoga for almost 20. She practiced Iyengar Yoga, Vipassna Meditation, and many other modalities before finding Kundalini Yoga.
A former ballet dancer with the Australian Ballet, Sat Siri found ballet meditation in motion, a creative expression that renewed her perspective with each step, turn or jump. “I fulfilled my childhood dream of dancing with the Australian Ballet. The truth that no matter how many times I practiced a step or a turn or a jump in the studio, once on stage everything was new and fresh, I was in the present moment. I had to be, sublimely so. Every breath mattered.”
“I felt similar when I first started Kundalini Yoga, the rhythm of a spinal twist with breath and music felt so freeing to me. Then the icing on the cake was that I got to close my eyes too! That felt amazing to me and a big relief. After all those years of studying and practicing and looking in the mirror perfecting everything physically to turn within to the world behind my eyes was profound and healing.”

AGY: What is your Astrology Sign and how do you relate to it?
Sat Siri: Virgo. I am definitely a perfectionist..I like to say I’m a recovering perfectionist..still recovering 🙂 I notice us Virgos have a special affinity for each other, maybe we know what a hard time we are giving ourselves in our own head, so we are extra kind. Virgio’s are very reliable, you can trust a virgo to keep their word. I like that about us.
AGY: What is your favorite mantra:
Sat Siri: RaMaDaSa for personal and collective healing.
AGY: What is your favorite asana and why?
Sat Siri: Frog pose. At it lifts my energy, and gives me a new perspective on any challenge I’m experiencing.
AGY: What is a random fact about you?
Sat Siri: I enjoy pretty much every genre of music from rock, to reggae, to classical, jazz, and rap.
AGY: What is your favorite inspirational quote?
Sat Siri: Desiderata
AGY: How did you get into Yoga?
Sat Siri: When I was about 20 years old and travelling and touring with the Australian Ballet, a few of us tried it to help calm us down and help prevent injury. I loved how it made me feel it immediately! It relieved a lot of anxiety in my body from that first class.
AGY: Why are you passionate about teaching yoga?
Sat Siri: I’m passionate about teaching yoga because it is the most beautiful experience watching, witnessing and holding space for a person to release the pain from the past, and truly come home to themselves.
AGY: What is your spirit animal and why?
Sat Siri: Deer. I always see them at very meaningful times in my life. They bring me messages. They stare deeply into my eyes, share their message and then run gracefully off.
AGY: Describe yourself in three words?
Sat Siri: My daughter Prem says I’m kind, thoughtful and brave..I’ll go with that!
AGY: If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Sat Siri: I’d like to have dinner with Michelle Obama. I think she’s such a fascinating, smart. strong woman..i’d love to talk to her about mothering, and the challenges of being human, and our inherent goodness.
AGY: Who has been your biggest mentor on your spiritual path?
Sat Siri: Gurmukh has definitely been one of my main mentors. She really informed how I teach and certainly held space for me to have deep experiences of healing and connection with my soul.
AGY: If you were stranded on a desert island, what are the three items would you bring?
Sat Siri: Sunscreen, a wide brimmed hat and a good book.
AGY: What brings you most joy and why?
Sat Siri: Hmm..walking on the beach, by the ocean brings me so much joy and peace. It’s where I feel most connected to Mother Nature and the largeness of it all.
AGY: What’s your biggest fear and why?
Sat Siri: Probably anything happening to my daughter. Her being happy and safe is my number one priority.
AGY: If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?
Sat Siri: Flying, saving vulnerable people from harm and teleporting, of course!
AGY: What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
Sat Siri: I would say, leaving my career as a Ballerina after 10 years, and opening the first Kundalini Yoga Studio in Sydney, Australia. That was pretty daring, and bold when I look back on it.
AGY: If you live in LA, when and why did you move here?
Sat Siri: I moved to LA to pursue the path of moving from teacher to Trainer of teachers.
Gurmukh was my mentor at the time, so being with her, assisting her and starting that journey so that I could train and support new teachers was the spark of why I moved here.
AGY: What is your favorite hobby, aside from yoga?
Sat Siri: Rollerskating!
AGY: What is your favorite food?
Sat Siri: Chocolate. It’s definitely one of the essential food groups to me. 🙂
