Power Vinyasa Yoga

AGY: How did you get into yoga?

Brittany: My friend took me to my first heated class when I officially moved to LA and I SUCKED, I was so bad. I don’t like being bad at things and I was open to challenging myself to initially learn more about the physical practice.  Overtime, I began to see the impact it had on my overall spiritual energy, and just…vibe, I became hooked.

AGY: Why are you passionate about teaching yoga?

Brittany:  I think yoga, especially in the black community, has always been looked at as something that is not necessarily accessible. Most people think you have to be super in shape, flexible or “in tune,” whatever that means to you.  I was initially one of those people but overtime I learned that you can make your practice, and I think that it was what I wanted to express to people.  I think throughout the practice, you grow to learn so much about yourself, in ways that you previously could not imagine beyond just a physical practice. I like being that source and having the ability to guide people throughout their journey.

AGY: Favorite asana and why?

Brittany:  Birds of paradise or Dandayamana Dhanurasana, standing bow; both require a lot of focus, balance, and practice, they aren’t poses that necessarily come easy, but over time and with practice, you definitely see improvement and build strength in them.  Both of these postures require strength, flexibility and balance, to me, this is what the practice of yoga is about, working hard at something over a long period of time, consistently, to see results.

AGY: What is your Astrology sign and how do you relate to it?

Brittany: I am a PISCES, I’m very observant and intuitive. On most days I am more reserved and to myself.  I am also very dreamy and definitely love to live in my head. I love music and painting, for fun, I care deeply for my friends and family, and I have a great sense of humor (seriously, I’m one of the funniest people I know).

AGY: Random fact about you:

Brittany: I have lived on every coast/ region of the US, Michigan, Washington D.C. and California.

AGY:  What is your spirit animal and why?

Brittany: I absolutely LOVE everything about elephants. They have amazing memories, are beautiful and while they’re super calm, they also demand respect.

AGY:  If you were stranded on a desert island, what are the three items would you bring?

Brittany:  Assuming this is more of a week stranded and not a “Naked and Afraid” stranded, I would bring my phone with an attachable power source, especially for Spotify, a fire-starter and a king sized blanket.  Honorary item, an unlimited supply of Bubbly Soda Water!

AGY: If you were a superhero, what powers would have?

Brittany:  Basically, I would like to be Peter Petrelli from Heroes, he has the ability to absorb and mimic the powers of others with special abilities and powers!

AGY: What brings you most joy and why?

Brittany:  Being with my friends and family and laughing- like the laughs that bring tears to your eyes, and winning.

AGY: What is the most daring things you’ve ever done?

Brittany: I’m definitely a thrill seeker, I love doing “daring activities”. A few years ago, I went skydiving in Lake Elsinore for my homegirls’s birthday- SO much fun!
